Advance passenger information

CA APIS

CA APIS stands for the Canadian Advance Passenger and Crew Information System. As requested by Canadian regulation, airlines are required to submit complete and accurate advance passenger/ crew information (API), on or after 01 November 2005. Submission of the data will facilitate effective customs and immigration security enforcement.

Required information

According CA APIS regulation the following information is required:

  • Full name (last, first, and, if available, middle).
  • Date of birth.
  • Gender (e.g. F - female, or M - male).
  • Citizenship.
  • Country of residence.
  • Travel document type (e.g. P - passport, or A - Canadian permanent resident or US alien registration).

API requirements for travel to and from Canada

Advance passenger information is not required

US APIS is required to transit via the US port Anchorage and to travel to Canada

US APIS is required to transit via the US port Anchorage

CX 888 YVR JFK

US APIS is required to travel to the US

Itinerary:
New York - Vancouver

CX 889 JFK YVR

US APIS is required to travel from the US to Canada

It is anticipated that there will be more countries requesting for API information so travel agents should fully apply API entries in daily operation.

What to do when information partially is unavailable

During reservation, travel agents are required to provide as much information as available to avoid similar data collection process to be repeated during passenger check-in at airport, causing passenger inconvenience unnecessarily.

How can I input information

Industry format SSR DOCS is required to input API data so airlines can transmit to CA automatically.

SSR OTHS is not accepted.

SSR DOCS required to enter following API data:

  • Full name (last, first, and, if available, middle).
  • Date of birth.
  • Gender (F - female, or M - male).
  • Citizenship.
  • Travel document type (e.g. P - passport, or A - Canadian permanent resident or US alien card).
  • Travel document number.
  • Travel document issuing country.

SSR DOCS, DOCO, DOCA and PSPT

DOCS, DOCO, DOCA and PSPT are the IATA Standard SSR codes for Advance Passenger Information:

DOCO Passenger other travel related information
DOCA Passenger address
PSPT Passport number

Cathay Pacific Airways supports both SSR DOCS, DOCO, DOCA and SSR PSPT for non-US and Canadian flights. However, SSR DOCS, DOCO, DOCA must be used for itinerary involving US and Canadian flights to provide sufficient information.
